Ride the legendary Hai Van Pass, explore Phong Nha–Ke Bang caves, follow the historic Ho Chi Minh Trail and meet ethnic minority communities along the way—each day revealing new landscapes and memorable stories.
Brief Itinerary
Day One
Hoi An – Hue Approx. 150 Km
Depart from Hoi An and ride north to the Marble Mountains before continuing along the scenic roads of Son Tra Mountain, with panoramic views over Da Nang and the coastline. The journey then climbs the legendary Hai Van Pass, where winding mountain roads meet spectacular views of the sea.
Descend towards Lang Co for lunch before following quieter coastal roads to An Cemetery, famously known as the “City of Ghosts.” After discovering its elaborately decorated tombs and unique local traditions, continue to Hue and arrive in the late afternoon.
Day Two
Hue – Dong Hoi Approx. 200 Km
Leaving Hue behind, we ride north along Central Vietnam’s scenic coastal roads towards the peaceful town of Cua Viet, known for its long stretches of golden sand. The journey continues to the historic Hien Luong Bridge and Ben Hai River, once the symbolic dividing line between North and South Vietnam at the 17th Parallel. Not far away, we explore the remarkable Vinh Moc Tunnels—an underground village that sheltered local families during some of the most intense years of the war. Combining open coastal riding, tranquil landscapes and powerful stories from Vietnam’s past, the day ends in Dong Hoi, where we check into our hotel for the night.
Day Three
Exploring Phong Nha–Ke Bang National Park Approx. 100 Km
Today, we ride into Phong Nha–Ke Bang National Park, a UNESCO-listed natural wonder renowned for its pristine tropical forests, dramatic limestone mountains and extraordinary cave systems. Winding roads lead us deep into the jungle, connecting with sections of the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail and offering some of the most rewarding riding of the journey.
Along the way, we explore one of Phong Nha’s spectacular caves, where remarkable formations have taken shape over millions of years, and stop to enjoy the flavours of the local cuisine. At the end of the day, we return to our homestay and relax in the peaceful natural surroundings.
Day Four
Phong Nha – Khe Sanh Approx. 240 Km
Leaving Phong Nha, we ride south into the Truong Son Mountains, following remote roads beneath dramatic limestone peaks and through pristine forests near the Vietnam–Laos border. The winding and isolated route takes us into one of Central Vietnam’s most remote regions, making this a challenging yet unforgettable day of riding. Along the way, we occasionally pass small ethnic minority villages tucked away in the mountains. When the opportunity arises, we stop for a break and share a friendly conversation with the welcoming local people. Before reaching Khe Sanh, we visit the historic Ta Con Airfield, a site closely connected to the region’s wartime past. Overnight at a hotel in Khe Sanh.
Day Five
Khe Sanh – Prao Approx. 180 Km
Leaving Khe Sanh behind, we continue south and visit traditional stilt houses that reflect the distinctive architecture of the ethnic minority communities of the Truong Son Mountains. After crossing Dakrong Bridge, we rejoin the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail, riding through remote valleys and mountain villages. Near Ta Rut, when the opportunity arises, we stop to meet and share a friendly moment with members of the welcoming Pa Co community.
The rest of the journey unfolds along sweeping roads and spectacular mountain passes. With smooth tarmac, pristine scenery and little traffic, this remote stretch offers an exhilarating sense of freedom on two wheels. By late afternoon, we arrive in Prao and settle into a local homestay for the night.
Day Six
Prao – Hoi An Approx. 160 Km
Our final day begins as we leave the mountains of Prao, following narrow roads through ethnic minority villages and stopping at beautiful waterfalls hidden within the forest. As the Truong Son Mountains gradually fade behind us, the landscape transforms from rugged highlands to the peaceful plains and coastline of Hoi An. We continue past An Bang Beach, one of Hoi An’s most iconic coastal areas, before returning to the Flamingo Travel office to hand back the motorcycles. From here, we transfer to the hotel, bringing our six-day journey to a close after an unforgettable exploration of Central Vietnam’s roads, landscapes, cultures and history.
